Federal disaster aid centers set up after Sandy will close next week.
The centers are where applicants can check on the status of their aid requests, get information about disaster loans and seek referrals to other agencies for other help.
The Brooklyn site is at the parking lot for MCU stadium at 1904 Surf Avenue and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. There are also sites at Breezy Point and Arverne in Queens and on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island.
According to the latest data released by FEMA, some 23,000 property owners and 29,000 renters in Brooklyn registered for federal aid. Nearly half the renters had a household income of less than $15,000; the median income of owners was around $51,000.
Among renters, the ZIP code in Brooklyn with the most registrants was 11224, covering Coney Island, where more than 9,000 people registered. The Sheepshead Bay/Manhattan Beach area led zip codes for registrations by owners, with more than 6,000.
At the time of that February count, roughly 45 percent of homes were found to have had less than $10,000 in damage, and only 4 percent had more than $30,000.
